Vision, Driving and the Law

It should be obvious that good vision and eye sight is a requirement for safe and competent driving.

Some people are required by law to wear glasses or contact lenses when driving because of near or far sightedness. As we get older our vision usually gets older and less effective with us, so we recommend that you get an eye test and mention driving to the optometrist so we can keep you on the road and safe.

Protection from glare can also be important when driving, particularly in north-west Victoria and surrounding regions. Polarised sunglasses can be an invaluable driving aid form many people. See our section on sun protection.
